The Tempest

—A Theatrical Reading with the Shakespeare Project of Chicago

Join us for a theatrical reading of Shakespeare’s magical play, "The Tempest,” by actors from the beloved Shakespeare Project of Chicago.

This program will be held in-person at the Newberry. Please register below.

“O, wonder!
How many goodly creatures are there here!
How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world,
That has such people in't.”

In this theatrical reading, professional actors from the Shakespeare Project of Chicago will bring The Tempest’s magic, betrayal, romance, and ultimate forgiveness to life, in a performance directed by J. R. Sullivan.

Founded in 1993, the Shakespeare Project of Chicago has performed at the Newberry since 2003. This reading will be preceded by an informative talk by a dramaturg about ten minutes before the performance and followed by a question-and-answer talkback with the director and cast.
