National Library Week at the Newberry

Celebrate all things Newberry this National Library Week!

What will draw you to the Newberry for National Library Week? Explore the links below and plan your visit.

Reader's Card
It all starts with a reader's card. If you're 14 or older and would like to explore our collection, you can sign up for a card for free. Learn more and start your journey through the archives today.

Exhibitions
Exhibitions at the Newberry are always free and open to all. Join us this Library Week to view Native Pop! and explore how Indigenous people have shaped popular culture.

Programs
We provide free programs all year. During National Library Week, there are two opportunities to join us. Hear about new acquisitions for the Wing Collection and rare books. Or join musicologist and international concert pianist Samantha Ege for a musical performance and discussion of her new book about the women who put Chicago’s Black classical music on a cultural map of their own making.

    Bookshop
Swing by the Newberry Bookshop and peruse an amazing collection of books, gifts, and Newberry swag. The shop is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10am – 12:30pm; 1:30pm - 4pm.

    Tours
Free building tours occur on Tuesdays at 11:30am, Wednesdays at 1pm, and Saturdays at 10:30am an 2:30pm. Join us for an exhibition tour Thursdays at 11:30am, Fridays at 1pm, or Saturdays at 1pm. All tours are free, and no advance registration is required.

    Digital Collections
Not in Chicago? No problem! Explore our digital collections from wherever you, participate in a transcription project, send a virtual postcard, and much more.

    Support Our Work
Donors of the Newberry support our efforts to care for a world-renowned collection and make it accessible—free of charge—to thousands of people from Chicago and around the globe. Make a gift today and help us draw even more people to the library!
