Class Description

Lucille Ball is celebrated as one of classic television’s top comediennes. In addition to a career spanning from radio, television, and film, Ball also possessed a strong business acumen that impacted classic television. Join Film Historian Dr. Annette Bochenek for a special “Hometowns to Hollywood” tribute to Lucille Ball, as she discusses her career, legacy, and early years in a multimedia presentation.

Dr. Annette Bochenek is an archivist, professor, film historian, and avid scholar of Hollywood’s Golden Age. She manages the “Hometowns to Hollywood” blog, in which she profiles her trips to the hometowns of classic Hollywood stars. She has been featured on Turner Classic Movies. Her articles have also appeared in Turner Classic Movies Backlot.

All virtual classes are recorded and made available to participants registered in the class. These recordings are password-protected and available for up to two weeks after the class ends.

Cost and Registration

1 session, $50 ($45 for Newberry members, seniors, and students). Learn about becoming a member.

We offer our classes at three different price options: Regular ($50), Community Supported ($45), and Sponsor ($55). Following the models of other institutions, we want to ensure that our classes are accessible to a wider audience while continuing to support our instructors. You may choose the price that best fits your situation when registering through Learning Stream.
