Class Description
This eight-week class offers participants the opportunity to become familiar with one of the most intriguing and entertaining literary works ever produced. Drawing on more than 60 languages and thus "universal" in its very essence, Finnegans Wake challenges readers to draw on a range of intellectual and emotional resources.
The class offers fundamental skills on navigating the complexities of Joyce's "Book of the Night," a text that challenges our established ways of thinking about language, human cognition, connection, and narrative structures. Various embedded tales in this rich, comic masterpiece will serve as our guide in our celebration of Joyce's final feast.
Susan Bazargan is Emerita Professor of English and a James Joyce scholar.
