In appreciation for their support of the Annual Fund, members of the Newberry Associates and President’s Fellows are invited to Associates Night.
Please join us for a special lecture and concert on the nineteenth-century Hungarian violinist and composer, Joseph Joachim. In her fascinating talk, Katharina Uhde, Assistant Professor for Violin and Musicology at Valparaiso University and recent long-term Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fellow at the Newberry, will examine the compositional strategies of Joachim’s Three Pieces Op. 5 through the lens of his passionate love affair with Gisela von Arnim.
The program will conclude with performances of Joachim’s Op. 5 No. 2 and the Notturno Op. 12. featuring Uhde on the violin and accompanied on the piano by Joseph Bognar, Associate Professor of Music and department chair at Valparaiso University.
