Registration for Winter/Spring Seminars is now open.
Registration for the summer term will open April 21 at 10 am. The early registration deadline is May 30, and seminars begin June 6.
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Many of the seminars fill quickly; we encourage you to register early. Full payment is required at the time of registration, and we cannot pro-rate tuitions to compensate for missed classes. Seven registrants are needed to run a class.
Once we receive payment, a confirmation letter will be sent to you along with a reading or materials list for the seminar. Cost of books and other materials is not included in listed tuitions. If you registered online you will receive an email message confirmation. All seminars meet at the Newberry unless otherwise noted.
There are several ways to register:
- Online with a major credit card (American Express, MasterCard, or Visa) by following the “Register Online” link under the course listing (Note: if registration has not started, if the class is full, or if it has been canceled, the “Register Online” option will not appear).
- By phone with a major credit card, call (312) 255-3700.
- By mail using either the registration form found in the Newberry Seminars brochure or by printing this downloadable registration form. Personal checks should be made out to the Newberry. Send forms to: Newberry Library, Attn: Seminars, 60 W. Walton, Chicago, IL 60608.
- Fax the registration form to us at (312) 255-3680.
Early registration for each term opens between 4-6 weeks before the first seminar meets. During this period, prices are at their lowest. Early registration ends one week before the first class of the term, at the early registration deadline. After this date, registration costs will increase by 10 percent and classes with fewer than the minimum seven registrants will be canceled. All listed prices in the printed brochure reflect the early registration cost.
We are pleased to offer a 10-percent discount to seniors over the age of 65, or Newberry Associates at the Author level ($100 or above), or students with a valid copy of their student ID. This discount is applied onto the appropriate tuition price (either early or late, depending on the registration date).
Requests for refunds must be received in writing. To request a refund, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. The Seminars Office retains a 10-percent processing fee. For single- and two-session seminars, tuition (less the 10-percent processing fee) is refundable until one day before the seminar begins. For seminars meeting more than twice, tuition (less the 10-percent processing fee) is refundable until one day prior to the second class meeting; we cannot give a refund once the seminar has met a second time. Requests for refunds may be placed over the phone, but must be received in writing or via email at email@example.com before the class meets a second time.
Books and Materials
We make every effort to provide complete and accurate book and materials lists on each course page online. The Newberry Bookstore stocks most required and recommended titles for the Seminars. Newberry Associates, at the Author level ($100) and above, receive a 10-percent discount on all seminar texts. Please call (312) 255-3520 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to find out what books are required for a seminar and to check on text availability.
Illinois Teacher CPDU Credits
The Newberry is an approved provider of Continuing Professional Development Unit (CPDU) credit for Illinois teachers seeking renewal of their state certification. Seminar participants seeking CPDU credit will receive one hour of credit for each hour of class time. Eligible seminars offered for CPDU credit are indicated as such. If you would like CPDU credit for a seminar, please inform the Seminars Manager by email or phone after you register.
The Newberry also offers a series of Professional Development Programs for Teachers. Please note these are not a part of the Seminars Program.
