Are the reading rooms open for research?
Yes, the reading rooms are open to researchers. Anyone who is at least 14 years old and curious about the humanities is invited to use our collection. Learn about getting your reader card so you can start doing research with us.
Are any exhibitions open at the Newberry?
Yes! Chicago Avant-Garde: Five Women Ahead of Their Time is currently on view through December 30, 2021. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm.
What do I need to know about visiting for an exhibition?
Newberry exhibitions are free and open to all. Advance tickets/appointments are not required.
Is the Newberry Bookshop open?
Yes. Hours are Wednesday – Friday, 12 – 4 pm, and Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm. The online store is open 24/7.
What about public programs, adult education seminars, and other programming?
This fall, many Newberry programs will be virtual, with some being held in person. View our calendar of programs to see what’s coming up next.
Do I have to wear a mask in the library?
A face mask is required for everyone, regardless of vaccination status.
