Seminar Description

This series of walking tours will explore some of Chicago’s “best addresses”—residential streets known for significant domestic architecture, notable residents, or historical events. Tours will focus especially on streets and neighborhoods near the lakefront, including Prairie Avenue, the Gold Coast, Lincoln Park, Hyde Park, Streeterville, and Lake Shore East. We will pay special attention to the role of residential architecture and urban design in shaping local identities and cultures, and to the role of historic landmarks in promoting tourism, commerce, and innovative design.

Ten sessions. E – $315, R – $346.50

Diane Dillon is an art historian specializing in the visual culture of Chicago. She holds a PhD in the history of art from Yale University.
