"Chicago Avant-Garde: Five Women Ahead of Their Time"
Monday, December 13, 2021
By Invitation Only
Events for Donors

In recognition of their leadership support of the Newberry Library, President’s Fellows and Newberry Associates at the Humanists level and above are invited to an exclusive tour of Chicago Avant-Garde: Five Women Ahead of Their Time.

Chicago Avant-Garde tells the story of five women who took radical risks in their lives and in their art: artist Gertrude Abercrombie, poet Gwendolyn Brooks, choreographers Katherine Dunham and Ruth Page, and dealer-curator Katharine Kuh. Inspired and challenged by Chicago, they helped transform the city into a hub of avant-garde experimentation.

Space is limited. Attendees will be expected to follow the Newberry’s regulations and guidelines regarding COVID-19. An update will be sent to attendees prior to their tour.

Cost and Registration Information

An email with registration information will be sent to eligible donors. To learn more, visit Annual Support and Membership or contact Vince Firpo, Director of Individual Giving, at firpov@newberry.org.
