Newberry Library - Ruggles Hall

Beginning with the end of antiquity, Gary Boyd Roberts will cover the various genealogical elites that have governed the modern world and their kinships to each other.  Also addressed will be such questions as the rise of the gentry, the genealogical origins of the American middle class, and the British “establishment.”  A third topic will be the geographical and temporal boundaries of provable kinship in the western world.

Gary Boyd Roberts is Senior Research Scholar Emeritus at the New England Historic Genealogical Society. A graduate of Yale and the University of Chicago, he undertook much of his early research at the Newberry.  His life’s work, The Mowbray Connection, includes 6,000 charts outlining the royal descents of notable figures in American, British, and European history.
