Database of Illinois Firefighter Line of Duty Deaths

The Illinois Fire Service Institute has created a database of firefighters who died in the line of duty going back 150 years:

“IFLODD, the Illinois Firefighter Line of Duty Deaths Digital Image Collection Database, documents the ultimate sacrifice of more than 800 Illinois firefighters over the past 150 years. Providing access to this history memorializes the firefighters, increases awareness of their sacrifice, and supplies contemporary firefighters with valuable “lessons learned” from the various deaths.”

Some entries just have very basic information about the circumstances of the death, while others include photographs and oral history presented as audio and text.

I would like to know the firefighter deaths so I can relay them to my crew at roll call.
@David - That's a wonderful idea! If you use the advanced search function ( you can put in a month and day (without the year) and you will get a list of all the firefighters who died on that day. If you want a list so you don't have to keep searching, I suggest you contact their library at: Stay safe.
