Book Fair Volunteering
Volunteering at the Newberry Book Fair is a terrific way to take part in one of the largest and best used-book sales in the nation. The Book Fair would not be possible without the hundreds of people who generously volunteer their time to make the event a success each year. And because all proceeds support the Newberry’s mission to offer free research and reference services, exhibitions, and programs for the public, the contributions of Book Fair volunteers continue to have a positive impact long after the sale ends.
First-timers, veteran Book Fair volunteers, and everyone in between are welcome to sign up. Volunteer shifts take place in the days before, during, and after the sale. Tasks vary by shift, and may include set-up, greeting, restocking, tallying and checking, and squirreling. Please note that some of these tasks may require heavy lifting, standing for extended periods of time, and walking around the sale floor, while other shifts involve sitting for extended periods of time. When volunteer registration is open, you may register for as many or few shifts as you wish to commit to. Book Fair organizers do their best to honor all registration requests and will prioritize accessibility accommodations.
Please see below for more information about how to register, or contact Jo Anne Moore at (312) 255-3556 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like more information about how you can get involved.
Online registration for the 2016 Book Fair is now closed. Those who have registered will receive confirmation of your shift assignment(s) by June 30. If your availability has changed or if you have questions about your registration, please call (312) 255-3556. Volunteer registration for the 2017 Book Fair will open in the spring of 2017.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Newberry. Did you know you can also support our mission by donating your books?
