Seminar Description

This seminar will explore Jewish music and its composers from 1900 to 1950. Alongside popular American Yiddish Theater and Tin Pan Alley songs, we’ll explore opera and liturgical and chamber music by European composers like Milhaud, Bloch, and Schoenberg. We’ll also pay special attention to music composed and performed in the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp by inmates Viktor Ullmann, Hans Krasa, and others.

Four sessions. Registration – $195

Andrew Schultze is a performer, teacher, and music researcher. He has taught at Columbia College, Roosevelt University, the Zell an de Pram Early Music Institute, and the University of Chicago. He has presented programs on similar themes at the Spertus Institute and at Chicago Sinai Congregation.
