Seminar Description

Mannerism--the name now given to the art of 16th-century Italy--is characterized by self-conscious displays of technical virtuosity, hyper-refined gracefulness, and a competitiveness in creativity that led to the creation of some of the most haunting, and even downright bizarre, images in the history of art. This seminar will explore the emotive as well as stylistic interpretations of Mannerist art, focusing on such artists as Pontormo, Parmigianino, Bronzino, and Arcimboldo.

One session. Registration – $85

Jeff Nigro is a research associate and adjunct lecturer at the Art Institute of Chicago.
