Seminar Description

A companion to last fall’s seminar on symbolism in the work of the Old Masters, this seminar explores how religious symbols and iconography shape our understanding of the art of the Old Masters. In this one-day seminar, we’ll journey from the alpha to the omega of religious symbols, trace their historical legacy, and consider the role they play in interpreting art today.

One session. Registration – $85

Alexis Culotta, PhD, is a lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and in the Learning and Public Engagement department of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is a published scholar in Renaissance studies and has enjoyed leading Newberry seminars on related topics for several years.
