In this seminar, particpants will explore the variety of backgrounds and experiences of the American workers during the heyday of the industrial revolution.  Participants will begin with the racial, ethnic, and gender particularity of the workforce by region, then examine sources of industrial conflict and competing strategies hatched by the labor movement itself.  Select readings and documents will ground the discussion.
