Historians looking for an apt titling of the current era have often pointed to the last several decades as the age of conservatism. Yet historians–themselves overwhelmingly left-of-center–have only recently come to grips with the massive transformation wrought by conservative politics and ideas. This semi NTC 2011-12 Seminar Schedule Page 3 explore some of the most important recent scholarship and thinking about the rise and transformation of modern American conservatism. Seminar participants will have a discussion-based format, interpreting and conversing about important primary and secondary sources on figures and issues ranging from William F. Buckley, Jr. to the Tea Party.

Seminar led by Robert Johnston, University of Illinois at Chicago

Newberry Teachers’ Consortium is a subscription program open to Chicago-area teachers.
