This seminar explores the complex history of immigration in the United States. It looks at how U.S. immigration law was initially forged, how it developed, and how one generation after another has transformed it. We will explore the types of immigrants that come to America, where and why they settle in particular places, and what is known about the processes of adaptation to a new culture, language, and social formations.
