The Blue and the Grey: Songs of the Civil War

Thursday, September 26, 2013
(This program continues for multiple sessions)
Thursdays, September 26 – October 24

5:45 – 7:45 pm

This class has been cancelled.
Led by June Sawyers

No other war in American history has produced such a variety of songs as the Civil War. We will examine the role of song during the Civil War and the function it played in the formation of American identity. The songs—often maudlin but also devastatingly blunt—reflected the time, and many of them remain recognizable today.

June Sawyers lectures and writes about popular and traditional music.
