In this seminar we will investigate the popular account of the Troubles in Northern Ireland that places the leaders of the IRA at the forefront of progress toward peace. We will consider the history of the Troubles from 1968 to 1998 and after, examining the rhetoric of political leaders and the events themselves to determine what caused the violence and why it came to a close at the end of the millennium.
