Musical Rarities of the Newberry Library

We will explore the Newberry’s scores of Mozart. Chopin, Schubert, Schumann, and Brahms, rare first prints of the earliest surviving opera, motets and madrigals prepared for Henry VIII, collections of European lute music, and a Bach masterpiece. The final session will touch on the library’s vast collection of American music. Participants will listen to performances of the music while learning about the library’s music collection.

David Buch is a scholar and author of books and studies on seventeenth- and eighteenth-century music.
