The History of Your Students' Lifetimes

Programs for Teachers

Friday, March 4, 2011

Students love, and arguably deserve, having their own lifetimes placed in historical context.  And while some call such attempts to place the current moment in historical context mere journalism, scholars have already done quite sophisticatedwork on events such as the election of 2000, 9/11, Katrina, the financial crisis, and the Tea Party.  In this seminar, participants will explore some of this work, and some of these contemporary issues, as well as try to figure out how these issues fit into an already over-burdened curriculum.

Seminar led by Robert Johnston, University of Illinois at Chicago
