The Origins of English Humanism

In this course students studied examples of humanistic literature in two areas of concern to Englishmen of the Renaissance: education and religion. Emphasis was on the relationship between England and Italy during the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Topics were drawn from the works of Petrarch, Ficinio, Castiglione, Pic, Thomas More, Erasmus, and John Colet.
